Leonard Johnson

Isaac Leonard Johnson, was the youngest of three sons born to John Morris and Carrie B. Johnson. John Morris, Jr., was missing in action in the Navy during World War II. Leonard Johnson graduated from Dunbar High School where he would later be the band director.

As band director at Dunbar High School, he was well known for influencing Art Porter, Jr., in his career as a sax player.

He spent a short time in Omaha, Nebraska, and while in Omaha he played in a band. That band did a two week engagement at the world famous Apollo Theater in New York. He moved back to Little Rock and attended Philander Smith Collage where he played in several bands as well as the orchestra. He was saxophonist with pianist Robert Talley's band.
